Fear the Russian Melodic Death Metal Army - Equilibrium Falls - An Interview with guitarist Mr. Alexei Saveliev

1. Hello Mr.Alexei! How have you been doing? before we start, please tell us about how did you start your journey in metal!

Alexei: Hi! I'm doing fine and hope everything is good with you. Thanks!
I actually started off with various 80's bands... I don't really remember, it was a long time ago! It kind of gradually grew into and interest by itself.

2. Who has been your inspiration or the band's influence in a whole? I believe Equilibrium Falls plays melodic
death metal, how did you guys come up with this awesome sub-genre?

Alexei: Well, obviously Swedish melodic death metal. But I try to incorporate everything I like in music in general, not only melodic death.
We have had people say that we have our own sound, like you said "sub-genre" and that's great. It's great when people recognize the
subtle individuality in music. In fact there will be much more of that on the album we are working on just now.

3. Can you tell us about your hometown and Russian metal scene? and how do you feel about it?

Alexei: I'll be honest here...it's non-existent. It's kind of like: there is a scene but at the same time it's almost like there isn't.
Unfortunately we don't really have a proper metal scene in Russia today.
The music industry here is awful, it does not allow good bands to develop and grow properly.
How do I feel about it? Like everyone else who takes music and metal seriously. It's obviously disappointing.
I wish I could change something but changes have to be made on a much larger scale. People's attitude towards musicians
and bands has to change, that is the starting point.

4. Tell us about your success and response regarding the EP you have released last year !

Alexei: The response is really good. There are people from all over the world who write nice things regarding our work. And that's awesome!
It's great that there are people out there who like what we do. Plus it means that we are moving in the right direction and that is also good to know.

5. You guys have been making out some awesome album covers, who is the magician behind such masterpieces ?

Alexei: Based on the meaning or theme of the release we come up with the ideas for the covers ourselves and then someone else realizes our ideas. In the case of the EP our friend did it and the cover for the single was made by a Russian designer Pavel Kurbanov. But so far the actual ideas for the covers belong solely to us.

6. What is the significance of the band name "Equilibrium Falls" ?

I think everyone should find their own meaning for themselves. It's more interesting when people think about it
and try to discover their own thing in lyrics or band names...and it makes the meaning more personal for each individual listener.

7. Have you been touring Russia? and any plans for an international tour?

Alexei: Unfortunately no. The reason for this is that we have had constant problems with our line-up. In the last 1-2 years, for different personal reasons
various musicians decided to leave the band. And obviously it's impossible to play gigs without a drummer or a singer.
Finding a replacement is also very difficult and takes a lot of time.
Sure it would be great to play in other countries and hopefully in the future we will be able to do this. That would be awesome.

8. Do you think playing metal can be taken as a profession worth a good payment? What are your thoughts about the labels?

Alexei : It's difficult to say... The obvious thing to say is - if your band is famous enough then yes, you can. But how to get to that stage is another issue.
I think primarily it's about doing what you love. If I get paid for it-great, if not - well I'll still be writing and playing metal. As for labels - that's a difficult one to answer. But from what I know and understand labels have suffered greatly due to the changes in the music industry. And this creates doubts regarding working with labels.
It used to be that bands needed labels to survive. Nowadays it seems like the labels are trying to survive by holding on to the handful of successful bands which made it big in the 90's and early 2000's. I may be wrong but that's just the impression I have of what's going on.

10. Do you want to mention any co-musicians/bands whom you think are really influencing the scene?

Alexei : I think all of us are trying. As far as our local bands go you can check out The Nomad, Flamorn, Count to Six.
Check out Ionic Bond! Not a local one but they're great.

"It was a nice chat with you Mr.Alexei! Wish you all the best!"

Meet the mighty D.A.M - Brazilian occult Melodic Death Metal - An Interview with vocalist/keyboardist/composer Mr. Guilherme de Alvarenga

1. Hello Mr.Alvarenga! As we know you are the vocalist of one of the mighty melodic death metal acts in Brazil, non-other than the mighty D.A.M!  You also take care of the keyboards and synths of the songs D.A.M has written up to now. Can you tell us how you started the journey with D.A.M?

Alvarenga: Well D.A.M started as my solo project in 2013 and it is my little child, I care a lot about it! I made DAM to show the world my researches at the Music College, how I compose and blend the composing techniques from classical music with heavy metal, so DAM´s journey is my personal journey is the same I like to compose songs that are connected in a deep level and to make that happen you have to write all the instrument lines! DAM was the way that I found to make that happens, to express myself as a person and as a composer in the way that I believe is the right one to be!

2. Can you tell us how difficult it is to simultaneously perform the vocals and keyboards in the live gigs?

Alvarenga: The hardest part is to transport my keyboard set(laughs), seriously it´s something fun to make, sometimes is hard to change key patches and sometimes to interact with the crowd, so I make choices all the time!About the coordination to play an instrument and sing at the same time, well it´s a matter of practice!

3. Tell us something about your hometown, the local scene and any co-bands that you think are doing well?

Alvarenga: Well my hometown is Ouro Preto a historical city from Brazil and it´s beautiful! Full of mountains and baroque architecture, there´s no local scene, no space to play and that´s why I moved from there!

4. As we know one of the mammoth metal act from Brazil is Sepultura, how much does they influence you guys?

Alvarenga: Musically? Nothing at all! I never heard them being sincere! But I believe they inspire everyone in Brazil with their story and so I!

5. Can you tell us about your recent success with your debut "Tales of The Mad King"?

Alvarenga: Well Tales was released in 2013 and we got good feedback from fans and media, made me happy, even after we released “The Awakening” in 2014 guys still dig it and prefer it, there´s a lot of essence on it!

6. I've heard the EP Phantasmagoria and was totally blown away! An awesome blend of melody and neoclassical song writing! Do you think you guys are bring down the core Scandinavian melodic death metal right there in Brazil?

Alvarenga: I was really influenced by Finnish metal bands when I was younger, you can hear them echoing in DAM, about bring the core those bands are really famous in Brazil is not something new this kind of sonority but it´s fun guys from here and other parts of the world thinking that DAM is from Scandinavia and when they discover that we are from Brazil and live in the same city as Sepultura is from (laughs) their face is something I can´t forget (laughs).

7. As we know, this is the digital age and piracy harms the artist. What are your thoughts on songs being downloaded over piracy?

Alvarenga:I prefer to not give my opinion! But more and more Music (and Art) is losing its value!

 8. Can you tell us more about your future plans?

Alvarenga: I want to release new EP “Premonitions”, record the last DAM Trilogy´s album called “Save me from myself!!!”! By now is the only things I can see in the horizon! I have more material written and things in my mind but I will need to decide to keep DAM as a solo project where I make everything or to transform into a real band! To make that decision I will finish the Trilogy I proposed to myself first!

9. It is evident that most of your fans around the world wants to know the significance and the full form of the band name "D.A.M". Are you willing to disclose it someday or will you leave it to the listeners?

Alvarenga: Yeah the name lies hidden in the trilogy! After the last album release I will say what DAM means!

10. How was your recent Argentina tour? Are you planning for any Asian/European tour for the future?

Alvarenga: The tour was perfect! I loved Argentina and it´s metal scene! I have plans but to make a tour you need a team working on it, not only the band but people from the region you intend to go, it’s a hard path to walk friend because you have plans and a message to spread but without money you can´t make things happen!

11. The significance of the awesome band logo! Can you tell us something about it?

Alvarenga: DAM lyrics talk about occultism, each letter is a symbol with a hidden meaning connected to what DAM means and with the music proposal I created with DAM!

"Thank you for your time! Wish to see new materials of D.A.M soon. Long live melodic death metal! Long live Brazil! Long Live D.A.M !"

DEATH IN MELODY - Introduction - A voyage of revival.

I have been thinking a lot, what metal has always given me in my life. It starts from a sheer fall of emotions where you find no company, and then the chimes of various artists around the world just can make you feel home. The lyrics parallel to the song lines sometimes, can radiate our own thoughts wherein we feel alive. Metal, heavy metal, has always been a controversial genre of music where the indisputable devotion and dedication of artists are evident. Surely, there is no space for auto-tuners and a whole software simulation. Everything coming down your eardrums are as alive as a living heartbeat.

Sometimes, people would ask me why do you hear things that is inaudible? Well my replies are just the same to every one of that kind. "I am a bat".  Ha ha, a counter-irrelevance for the other. The matter of thought is to find art, and any art-hungry hippie or nobleman would definitely cherish arts in any form. Irrespective of the countless stereotypes that I have to come across, drug abuse being linked to a genre of music, and all short of such cosmic theories that has been a reason of de-motivation. But here we are, stopping at nothing, relentless, reckless , forever!

Heavy metal in turns has numerous sub-genres. Why? a grandpa tree is supposed to have lots of branches and here we are, the mighty metal and its babies. Things stretch from traditional heavy metal, to speed metal, thrash metal, black metal, death metal, power metal, doom metal, progressive metal and what not. Even the sub-genres have inter-fusions like , Blackened Death metal or Progressive Doom. This is a whole new universe where you can lose yourself, and let the metal take it care for you.

My childhood started with a particular kind of music, metal to be specific. I found it really tempting. There were this chilly dissonant growling and then eventual melodies, sometimes groovy, sometimes hitting the pentatonics, sometimes a smooth alternate riffing over ambient keyboarding. Yes, this is none other than Melodic Death Metal. I kinda fell in love. I loved the very geographical chronology of it, the mighty Scandinavian metal scene. Finland has always been my dream land. Meeting my childhood heroes, Children of Bodom, Kalmah, Norther, Eternal Tears of Sorrow, I could just imagine the victory it would bring me.

Inspired by the melodic death metal supreme, I started playing as a vocalist which took 6 years of my time to do some actual growling and screaming, but it wasn't enough.  I have to go a long long way. I start my band Ionic Bond(http://www.ionicbondofficial.com/) (https://www.facebook.com/ionicbondofficial) which is of course, a melodic death metal band after all. We release our debut last year, with the name "Amavashya Lore". This is my first contribution to the melodic death metal supreme which supported me through my well and woe, forever.

Then I decided to write, and thus, this blog comes to life. My plans are to bring back true melodic death metal and preserve the names of the bands and people who are working for it. Why only melodic death metal? Well, it's him the supreme who has been with me since my childhood, and now it's the time to repay.

Here in this blog, I am going to feature interviews of various bands around the globe, promote the materials, and allow discussions and reviews. I am also planning for bigger actions, anything that would help me consolidate the community. And this is how we will create a strong bridge among everyone, collected as whole.

If you want to request me for any interviews or promotion please hit me up on my mail or fb
